Renovation on Arizona State University’s Sun Devil Stadium has reached an early milestone with the selection of the architectural design and construction firms that will be responsible for the project.
Design services will be handled by HNTB Corporation and Gould, while Hunt Construction Group and Sundt Construction will perform the construction work, according to Construction Global.
Both construction companies have experience working either in stadium construction or on projects for Arizona State. Hunt was responsible for building the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale and Nationals Park in Washington. Sundt has completed numerous construction projects at ASU and at the University of Arizona.
The decision to hire these design and construction companies came in early August and was announced by Ray Anderson, Arizona State University’s athletic director. The process was carried out via competitive bidding from several different companies.
The $210 million Sun Devil Stadium renovation project will reduce the capacity of the stadium by about 12,000 seats, from 71,700 to 60,000. Most of the seating will be lost in the stadiums north bleacher section.
However, the reduction in seating will be balanced by improved lower-bowl seating, better box seating and improved suite seating. The overall layout of the stadium will be revised into a horseshoe-like configuration.
The renovation plans also call for improvements to the stadium’s video equipment and sound system.
